THE CLUB

North Gwent Archers, is an archery club that is currently based in Bishop Hedley RC High School, Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. We shoot on a Wednesday evening from 7pm to 9pm throughout the year. However, during the summer months we also have an outdoor field at Tredegar Leisure Centre where we can practice field archery and try some new things. We are a club who cater to all abilities and disciplines of archer. From beginner to professional, from longbow to compound.

About The Logo

THE LOGO

The club logo is 'The Red Eyed Ram' - I was once told, that when the club started in the 1970s, they used to shoot in a field near Crickhowell, and there was a very angry ram in the field with the sheep. So from that day forward, the club members decreed that the Red Eyed Ram should be the club's logo forevermore.

BECOMING A MEMBER

To book on to the Beginners Course contact Ieuan Thomas and he'll be able to tell you what spaces we have available, and when you can start.
The Beginners Course consists of six sessions ( and it normally takes six weeks to complete.)
The first 'taster' session is free, then if you want to continue with the course, the cost for the 6 week course is £50 per person.  This also includes our 'Beginners Package' which contains; 1 Arm Bracer, 1 Finger Tab and 1 Bow Sling. Under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

The Beginners Course fee pays for coaching and the hire of all the equipment you will need, so please don't go out and buy a bow before you begin.

Once you've finished the course you are welcome to join the club and become a full member of North Gwent Archers.
We charge an annual membership fee, which covers Insurance, WFFA affiliation and Club membership fees, and we also pay monthly target fees of £12 via direct debit.

As with the Beginners Course - for insurance purposes - all juniors must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times once they have joined the club, and this rule remains a requirement until the archer is 18 years old.

Club coaches are happy to offer advice and ongoing coaching for those who have completed their beginners course - so just ask if you need any further advice. Club coaches will not offer advice unless asked, as we recognise that some archers simply want to shoot and enjoy the level they are at, whilst others may want advice on how to improve so that they can shoot competitively. If you're struggling, ask - we won't criticise, and we're happy to help. Club coaches and other members can also give you advice on what type of bow, etc... to buy, when you are ready to buy your own kit.

As always safety is paramount, so we will tell you if we spot you doing something daft - even if you don't ask!

Happy shooting - and welcome to the club
